You seriously had me rolling on this post. I could see myself totally explaining how great my kid is. Luckily they are still too young for the parent-teacher conference.

You sound like you learned maybe too much from Aunt S. Drop the guilt! T. is fine, will progress at his own rate. He gets good and educational attention at home. Learning is not all tests--remember some of your report cards. Paying attention to the teacher, flights of imagination...and you are fine.

As for C, yes he is big, probably too big for you to try to wrestle when he is in a bad mood. He is also very young. What you needed was his serious attention--try the newspaper hitting the table trick. It worked with your brother and he is fine too. You can hit the table as hard as you want, you know---that part helps you--the sounds get's his attention. It may even make him forget why he is crying if he isn't really hurt. Go running, now that is good for everything!

I understand from both ends. The teacher and the parent end. I think I am worse though... because as a teacher, I try to motivate her more than she really needs. She just needs to be a kid. Oh well, live and learn.

Wow. I found your blog through someone else's Tweet and read your son's birth story. I was struck by how much of it could have been written by me. Went into labor in Boston, had a C-section, my son had to stay in the NICU for 10 days. The circumstances were slightly different, but I remember how traumatizing it was to see him hooked up to all those wires, and how hard I tried to make breastfeeding work for us (it did... and still does at 11 months although I'm working on weaning). Anyway, thanks for sharing your story! :)

eh. Just keep having more kids, eventually, you start calling them the wrong name, forgetting to stop for lunch, and calling the day a success as long as nobody got stitches.
