Welcome to the New & Improved Morningside Mom

I finally did it. I got my act together and outfitted this little blog with some big girl clothes. She’s all grown up now – she’s self hosted!

Thanks to the wonderfully talented Shannon at Phat Mommy, I was able to get this girl in her high heels, stick a fab dress on her and have her tromping around the blogosphere like she owns the place.

Well. I dunno. I mean, this blog is not exactly the heels type, I suppose.

This is a mom blog, with suburban peace loving, hippie tendencies. She still loves the wilds of Florida in her backyard and her practical Saturn parked her garage. And she has a living room floor covered in star wars toys and cold mac n cheese in her frig.

But she still gets feisty. She still wants to see change happen. She still speaks her mind. She still calls it like she sees it.

(Even if she really reeeeally hates offending anyone.)

So, here we are. One year older, one year wiser, one year of confidence and a whole lot prettier. Heels or flip flops, Vivienne Tam or Target – this blog is growing up. And I am pretty damn proud of her.

Self hosted?! Wow. I am duly impressed. I don’t know if I have the gumption to do this yet.

It’s beautiful! Congratulations! I’d love to do this at some point with my blog/s. What made this the right time for you to do the upgrade?

Alexis – Well, it just felt like the right time. I have been doing this a year now – and I’m not going anywhere. I am seeing lots of great traffic. I am considering ads now too so maybe I can make a couple $$ for my hard work. I just felt ready. Plus the I used the money I got for selling my BlogHer ticket (long story and a post is warrented about why I can go now – sniff) to upgrade. All the stars seemed aligned. And with how this blog has been going, I follow the signs around here – lol.

Great new site–looks wonderful!

I just read your blog on the Pope’s comments about HIV/AIDS in Africa. I couldn’t agree with you more. The poor need more access to all types of education on STDs and birth control–not less. Small families are not for the rich only. Talking to a taxi driver in an Arab country, he said, I didn’t know anything about birth control. I love my wives, but how can I ever earn enough to pay for the education for the children. How many poor women die horrible deaths from STDs and childbirth is truely unknown. What is known is what happens to the living children after a mother dies. The story of the children in Slumdog Millionaire is more realistic then fiction. There is nothing nice about life in the slums nor for the people condemmed to live there.
