		<description>Thanks so much for researching and discussing this topic. Your friend is right that it is a slow process for the military to change. But your friend is also right that soldiers do not question their superiors. If the rules are changed they will say yes sir and do their job.
I have spoken to a high level official in the Pentagon. They are prepared for this change. They do not see a problem with a mass exodus of people leaving or recruiting being a problem if the policy changes. in fact the biggest problem they have is DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act). The fact that open gays could get married but then their family is not recognized by the Federal government would create a 2nd class soldier. They couldn&#039;t apply for base housing or other things straight couples could. This is the biggest concern. 
So I think many Republicans are holding onto DADT because its repeal will lead to problems in keeping DOMA.
