I find myself in the same predicament of feeling helpless in so many ways. Not only from an enviromental standpoint but the ill feeling I get everytime i think about the major (oil/auto/tobbacco/pharm) corperations carving up the countryside for bigger slice cheese.
Emptying the fossil fuel reserves whether on land or at sea will carry catclismic repercutions, not to mention the air quality issues and the depletion of our ozone layer that comes with burning these fuel topside to power our vehicles, heat our homes and keep our lights on.
The very things that make this orbiting sphere inhabitable are paying the dearest price to hand of human greed. Our oceans breath life out into the atmosphere and our beautiful expanse of forests and wetlands scrub that toxic air clean are bought and sold every day. It would seem to me that the word priceless should be removed from the working dictionary of the human race as everything has a price and its much lower the one would guess.
As we accelerate the rate at which we pollute our home and our bodies still no person every feels that they should ever have to take a step back in their standard of living. Even as the cheers roared during Obama's sacrifice's speach, everyone agreed but no concessions were made.
As we grow closer and closer to paying the ultimate price still our society continues to rape and pillage its home for monetary gain. Pray if you must, rant if you will, do what you have to to make ends meet. The disasters will continue their severity will increase and life as we know it will change forever.
Its not the planet who's in jepordy, its the human race and the Earth will continue to turn for billions of years even after we done our worst.
I hope to have not offended anyone to bad and if I have well...... NOBODY CARES !!!

So glad you wrote this. I spent the entire weekend wanting to yell at anyone who would listen. Aren't you worried about this? Aren't you worried about all of the animals and little bugs and beautiful plants. And the sand. And the wetlands, and the pelicans. I feel so helpless. just pray for a miracle.

Thank you for writing this.

I spent this weekend being bummed out that I couldn't drag the boys to the beach right away. I feel that same visceral pull, as if I could stand there with my arms widespread to protect our shores.

This sucks. So much.
