Think Good Thoughts and Win a Lenovo All in One A70z

Sometimes I wish there was a way to pay back my readers for everything. For all the bumbling posts they’ve patiently read through, for all the support they’ve offered through comments, and for their patience during quiet moments when life keeps me from posting more often. Now’s my chance.

The time has come to give away another computer here at Morningside Mom.

*Giddy clapping*

And in case you’re wondering what kind of computer I’m giving away, well you might want to read my review here or go to the Lenovo website to learn as much as you can about it.

Because it is a very cool PC. It takes no time at all to set up, it starts right away, it runs very quickly, it has everything you need in one spot. And it is simply a keyboard, mouse and monitor. That’s it. Well, there’s much much more to it of course, but you would hardly know considering how simple, clean, fast and space saving it really is.

And I get to give one away here.

(Cue *giddy clapping* once again.)

Now if you know anything about me, you know I like to have some general well meaning purpose to my give-aways. I love to see good done and nothing makes me happier than seeing great things like this go to fabulous people.

So I’ve been brainstorming about how to run this give-away.

Of course, if I could, I would demand every entrant to make a donation to oil spill relief. Or donate products needed to assist with oil spill relief. Or maybe cap the oil leak itself with their bare hands.

But that’s hardly realistic. So I’m going to keep it simple. Here are the rules.

1) Comment here and tell me how this computer could be used for good. And please don’t just type:

“The Lenovo A70z could feed the children in Africa. The end.”

Gimme a break.

Be cool and be thoughtful. Maybe a particular non for profit could use this in their work. Maybe you could do something for your local PTA. Maybe this would be a great addition to a new community center or library. Just be meaningful. Think things through. Imagine what kind of good you could do with something like this. I know I can’t guarantee that this PC will certainly be used for good, but it can’t hurt to imagine how it could be. You never know what kind of good could be inspired along the way. *wishful thinking*

2) Only real comments with full sentences and actual thoughts will be entered to win.

3) It counts as an entry if you tweet: An all in one A70z Lenovo PC is being given away on @morningsidemom – enter here: http://www.morningsidemom.com/ Just be sure to come back and comment here that you tweeted.

4) You may enter up to three times.

5) Entrants must reside in North America (US or Canada).

One winner will be chosen at random and announced on July 11th. An entrant will not win if they have won at any of the other 20 contests currently underway for an A70z. The winner will be contacted by via email for shipping information.

(Also, if we’re related or you come over to my house or KNOW me know me? It’s really not so cool if you enter. But you might want to go check out one of the 20 other contests. You know I’m rooting for you.)

Good luck to everyone!

FTC Disclaimer: An A70z Lenovo all in one PC was given to me for review purposes.

*********
UPDATE:

WE HAVE A WINNER!

Congratulations to Michelle S.!

Thanks to all who participated, the contest is now over and the comments have been closed. Don’t forget to check out all of the other contests still underway – the last one runs until July 24, 2010. To see which blogs still have contests, check my post here.

This computer would be great for colleges and schools. With all the budget cuts and tuition increases(sooo glad I’m graduating next year), schools need to find every way to save money. That being said, this would be a great investment when the schools upgrade their PC’s because as a standalone, it would decrease the electricity consumption. Multiply that by the massive amounts that schools(especially universities) use at once, the electric bill savings would be immense. Also, since it’s an all-in-one, it puts the convenience factor on par with those iMac desktops.

This handy little machine is capable of doing so many things, it’s hard to narrow it down to one particular /real/ superhero act that it could perform.

That being said, I’ve done it anyway. The local Food Pantry where I live is still using a computer that runs Windows 95. Excuse me while I walk away to fan myself southern belle style at the thought. There, with that done…

My area was very hard hit by the industrial relocations that hit early last decade, and still hasn’t recovered. A lot of people need the Food Pantry’s help to get through. With that many people the lines are very long, and the tiny little waiting room can barely contain them all while the volunteer at the desk slowly processes them using that old computer. Having one of the A70z, besides saving them quite a bit of desk space, would help speed this process up a great deal.

It might not sound like much, just moving people through a line faster, but if you take into account the moms with two toddlers and an infant in tow waiting inside, older couples nearly having to get into cage matches with each other to earn one of the few chairs, it certainly would alleviate a great deal of the pain.

My work is my life, I take it everywhere. I find myself defending my life quite often,
and a portable data and image source always help. For decades, I’ve been a proponent of a unique theory, now more factually backed, that has gotten me in trouble repeatedly, luv trouble. We are a nation in denial about how we run business, I grew up in a household with 3 businesses and was a rep for small business for 2 corps. I analyze data, I sometimes hear where the bodies of dead children are because my govt. is not allocating funds to use the space program for non-commercial (protection) purposes but for private individual behavioral control. As a filmmaker, films about the development of technology without regulation is what I am passionate about. Telling the true stories that are buried. A portable computer, that can hang anywhere – because plenty of people want to see me hand – with a large screen is good for both the study of films and for representing the ideas and images I need to show to persons who facilitate what I do and/or keep me out of a mental ward.
PS I’ve already written Coke to tell them they should have a donation for the clean up of animals and my cat,
who hogs my keyboard, is tweeting about Dawn and other companies helping with animal clean up. We only tweet for the dead and for animals, live people should be allowed to speak for themselves!

I’ll be honest, I am launching a business to help mid life, first time entrepreneurs get their businesses up and running, so if I won, the computer would be used mostly for that business.

However, I also do a lot of volunteer work (my fiancé would say too much) for Toastmasters International. This fall I will be running a low cost seminar series to teach communication and leadership skills to adults as well as starting a weekly high school program that will teach the same skills to students. The computer would be used for this purpose as well.

I’d love to tell you that I would donate the computer, but I would keep it. Mind you, my current computer would be refurbished and find a new home through Freecycle.org. I am one of the moderators for my local Freecycle group, so, a needy family or charity will benefit indirectly, if I win.

Thank you for hosting this contest!

I find very often that the technology is getting ahead of what we need for our everyday lives. From reading about it, it sounds as though this machine is perfect for the everyday things in life for which a computer is useful without being so high tech. In fact, this computer is one that my 3 year old could utilize in learning about computing and developing those skills going forward so that he can work towards making a difference in the world.

I would be excited to win this computer. My friend & I are in the process of starting a community foundation and this computer would be a great help to make that happen.

Our goal is to create a local charity that can help businesses raise funds to supports the needs of the community. So many companies simply say there’s no budget to make donations, but I know we can show people how easy it is to generate interest and support for a cause.

#11 Deb Anderson on 07.07.10 at 7:17 am

Where I think this computer could make an impact is in a small rural library where it could be used either for public Internet access or as a card catalog so patrons could look for books. Most larger libraries already have the technology they need, but the smaller libraries are facing a financial crunch that could literally mean the difference in continuing or closing up shop. Public libraries are critical, especially in rural areas where access to information and technology is already limited. And the space-saving design means it could be hung on a wall at eye-level and all that’s needed is enough space for the keyboard and mouse.

This machine sounds awesome! So many non-profits continue to be affected by budget cuts, staff cuts and all-around economic woes. Technology is expensive so it is oftent he first cut that is made. This machine could help kids in so many locally run student centers, children’s after school centers, recreation rooms. Children need access to technology like this so they can see what is possible regardless of their current economic situation.

Another way this could be a huge help would be for a local fundraiser. My friend’s 3day susan G Koman walk team works so hard to raise money all year. One community project I head up is a yearly fundraiser to raise money for a local family in need- usually to pay medical bills of a terminally ill child. This could be raffled off to raise money for many local causes. A lot of people are usually willing to buy a $2 raffle ticket no matter how tight money is for them.

I do a lot of volunteer work and run several different community programs that could benefit greatly from this computer.

Well, for me this could do good in two ways.
1) It could save my sanity, and possibly my relationship since my boyfriend and I currently fight DAILY over who gets to use the netbook that we currently own. He seems to think that watching a minute by minute account of the same sports the he is WATCHING is more important than me doing actual work.
2) Since i work in health care and am on-call an average of 4 days a week, when i am paged i NEED a computer to check emails, patient info, etc. Enter: the fight. It would make both our lives so much simpler if I had a private space, with a computer to work. And the patients, don’t forget them! If I can do my job faster, it’s better for them :)
Thanks for hosting this contest, and letting me vent in this comment a little :)

I’ll just add onto my other comment, since I forgot one thing anyway :)
I live far from my home and I miss my family like a crazy person. We’ve always been tight and I actually feel physical pain to be missing all the events and conversations and meals… If I could have a computer that works faster than the chug-chug-chug of my netbook, they would get skyped. incessantly. and they would love you for it.
Thanks again!

As to how this computer could be used for good, well I blog and advocate for a lot of causes during my free time. While the research, networking and advocacy that I do can be done on any computer, a faster and more capable system like the A70 would be a great boost to my productivity.

#19 Lloyd on 07.07.10 at 8:57 am

Hmm, what to do for that third entry? I guess I can say I’m just hoping that I’d be the fortunate winner, I suppose. Thanks for the giveaway, morningsidemom, ivy worldwide, and Lenovo of course. I’m sure a lot of people will be waiting with bated breath for the outcome.

This computer would be perfect in the kitchen for us. We would use it for recipes, but more importantly, we would use it for Sesame Street youtube clips to entertain the children while dinner is being prepared (or while we’re trying to get anything done). I just may buy one regardless :) .

Our schools are cutting the creative classes next year. So I am starting an Art and Photography classes for kids ages 4-17. Having an extra Reliable computer would be amazing for the kids to be able to back their work up on. Or to use for homework and extra stuff. The community I live in is mostly lower income families that more than likely do not have home computers. Our schools only have two open computers that all the kids have to share. Thanks for the chance to win.

This computer could be used for many good purposes. I know in my community there are many non-profit organizations that could use a better website. I help maintain a website for my son’s Boy Scout troop, and a computer like this could make this much faster and result in a more informative site. I also know that our local Little League really needs to upgrade their website to include practice schedules and field changes, so I think this computer could be use for lots of good in the local community.

My wife works at a boarding house for boys from broken homes. They are short on resources (including space) and a computer like the Lenovo A70z would be a welcome addition. Many of the kids use the computers frequently and there aren’t enough to go around.

#31 Ari Teger on 07.07.10 at 10:41 am

I am currently studying in university and I know a few students who don’t have the resources to buy themselves a computer. The computer labs aren’t open all the time and most homework assignments must be submitted online. I am sure they would be thrilled to receive a computer that is not only new, but that can be accommodated nicely into a cramped dorm room.

#32 Becki on 07.07.10 at 10:42 am

This computer would be used for so much goodness! We have an at home Bible study for 6 teenage boys every Wednesday, and to be able to hang this on the wall so that we can show the verses and examples for them all to see and not get distracted would be awesome.

Also, it would help with daily reminders of where everyone needs to be that it would blow your mind

#36 JD Northwest on 07.07.10 at 11:36 am

And to think I was planning on just saying I’d be using this to enhance my families technology experiences. Your question does create an opportunity to think beyond our own needs and to think about the daycare that is limping along on a older XP machine for some of the Math and Reading skill building applications. And the parish office that could use this in their front office to help with visitors looking for assistance. Wow… thanks for making me think about where the real needs are.

This computer could certainly be put to good use in Haiti. Students are heading over to Haiti to help with the aftermath of the disasterous earthquake that ripped apart the lives of so many Haitians. Although this happened awhile ago, there is still much to do. This computer would be fantastic to take over there so that the students could stay in contact with their families. Then at the end of their trip they could leave the computer there for someone to put to good use. I am sure there are many people in Haiti who would love to have this computer.

This computer would be used for good, i promise! My best friend’s 9 year old daughter is being home schooled right now and a computer to supplement her education would be fabulous! The internet would help her research about current events and she could go to educational websites, and other websites safe for children like her. Her parents are struggling financially so i think giving them a computer would be a good way of helping them out. They only have one laptop that’s being used for their home business, so a family computer would help…

I have a 5 year old lap top for my use and a 7 year old almost dead Dell for the kids. More and more I have to give up the laptop to the kids. Computer knowledge is mandatory is today’s world. I am fearful that my kids lack of computer skills will penalize them later.

After reading the reviews for this computer system, I really think this would be useful in our public schools. So many schools have really old systems and our teachers don’t even have access to computers for their day to day work, emails, grades testing etc. This computer could be stationed in a library, even on a wall (which is so cool) and the teachers could have access to it for their work. Seems like a perfect place for it. Our schools are in such need.

How the A70z could be used for good? Most nonprofit organizations could use a computer for general office needs, and many have very limited office space, and sometimes they have to share an office. A compact desktop computer like this, which could be easily stored, would be good for them.

It’s unclear how to get a third entry, so I’ll just say what I’d probably do with it if I won. I’d probably give it to my mother, who has a desktop computer that’s so old that she prefers to use the computers at the public library, even with the time limits there.

#84 Becky on 07.07.10 at 8:34 pm

The preschool that two of my kid went to (and my third will go to) could surely use this computer. They print out worksheets for the kids to practice letters on, the director keeps track of and puts together a directory for the parents, emails parents with events and news, keeps a web page etc. The school is not for profit, and I can’t begin to tell you how much I’ve loved the way they taught and cared for my kids.

The director’s office, which doubles as the materials room, is packed to the gills. I’m sure a computer with such a small footprint would be an amazing boon to the program, while using the smallest amount of space possible.

The Lenovo could be used to condense a lot of the recipe booklets and cookbooks in my kitchen, as well as streamline my budgeting and payments schedules. It can be hung on the wall and used to display date and time, quick weather, appointments, and anything else we would like to have at our fingertips. Taking up such little space has to be a ‘green’ plus.

This is an easy one for me. I’ve worked with Developmentally Disabled adults for the last 9 years and I absolutely love it. I have a son that was born with a rare brain disorder, so I think that part of my passion in working with people with developmental disorders is that it is something very personally meaningful to me. I currently work for a company that has several care homes. Although the offices where the reports get generated and such has computers, there are no computers provided that the clients can use. Some of the clients would love to use the computer. How fun it would be for them to send an email out to a family member, to draw a picture, to make a photo album to search and access something on the internet that they want to learn about or see a picture of. There are even programs that can be purchased that are designed to be used on a computer to teach a developmentally disabled person money management or other life skills. This computer would be such a blessing to the clients that I work with. I can assure you that the clients would love to have this computer, they would put it to good use, it would enhance the quality of their lives and it would help them to learn new skills.

Thank you for the opportunity to win.

This system would be great in a community center specifically geared toward retired folks. My husband is in the military, so I am familiar with the heartache military families go through when a soldier is deployed. Communication is absolutely VITAL during a deployment!!! This computer isn’t bulky, so it could easily be taken overseas by a soldier and used to stay in touch with his family. Also, at many bases overseas the USO sets up areas containing games, snacks, computers, etc. for soldiers to use, and it would be so fabulous if one of these areas could be outfitted with computers such as this!!!!

It’s hard to explain why someone would want a free computer because everyone do wants one , rather it be new or old. Me in particular is in a desperate situation for a new computer because of educational situations. The reason why I’m in need of a computer at the moment is to deploy it for educational purposes. I need a computer to write out and type out all of my essays and documentations that I will be doing over the course of the next three years in college. I have made it through one year without a computer of my own in college. For the past year , I have been turning in late or incomplete reports to my professors because I don’t have a computer of my own at my disposal. For the paste year , I have been using the Public Library’s computers to type and print out all of my reports , essays , and documentations.
With the Lenovo A63 computer system , I will probably be able to actually finish my reports on time and turn them in on time.As a Matter fact , I’m confident that if I win the Lenovo A63 Computer system , I’ll be able to search for a job online and make some money while attending college. With this in mind , I can guarantee that my friends won’t look at me as a “outcast” if I win the Computer system because I’ll have a computer , just like them. I know the possibilities of me winning the system are slim but I really do hope I do.
Thank You for reading this ,

I would also like to submit that this computer would be put to great use in my field of work: that is mental health. I’m a counsellor and therapist, and I could easily use this computer in session with my clients. To have resources at your finger tips, while the computer is mounted in an easy to see location, convenient to all those in the room would be highly useful.

A particular type of therapy that would benefit from this machine would be CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) which relies heavily on psychoeducation as a part of the client learning about things which would empower them to change.

I could easily see a therapist using this computer to show media clips, slides, etc. relevant to their particular caseload, and the built in wireless would mean that resources could be prepared ahead of time somewhere else and retrieved easily by this unit.

Thanks for the chance to share, and I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

I could see this PC being very useful in a hospital setting. The small form factor and low power consumption would make it very useful for not only entering patient records and general administrative work, but also for patient entertainment.
The small size means that it could be placed inside a patient’s room without much difficulty, or multiple A70z systems could be placed in a lab without many placement or power issues.

Thanks.

We are in the middle of setting up a shelter in our town,
as there has been a huge increase in need of these
services. As our budget and space is limited, having
a computer like this would go a long way in helping
with administration etc. As the volunteer tech support, I can tell you we are currently using a older Pentium3
with no sides to the case. It runs only through prayer
and miracles. We do have an amazing large amount
of work which has to be done online and on our
computer, due to government paperwork, grant filing
and tax status, as well as using it for temp email
account access for a number of our long term shelter
users. We could definitely put a new Lenovo to use.
Thanks.

As we are allowed a 3rd Entry.

I volunteer for a local food bank/charity, and I could see this PC being very useful for them. Presently they mainly use Pentium 4 era PCs with CRT monitors, and they have a fair number of problems with them.

This PC has a much faster processor, so it could access volunteer databases and do general administrative tasks much more quickly. I do database entry with this particular organization, and doing so on the systems they have now is a very tedious endeavor, and takes more time than it should.

Also, the lower power consumption would allow them to save on their power bills, and therefore have more money to give to the people who really need it.

#140 stuart on 07.08.10 at 8:40 pm

First I would like to thank you for the chance to enter this contest and explain my reasons for wanting it.
I was working for a small company and always wanted to have my own company, but alas that has not happened yet. I then met this wonderful woman, Donna who turned out to be the love of my life, and we dated for awhile, and then as many, differed apart, only to rediscover one another sometime later. She has become my wife, partner and best of all my true friend. We have been blessed with a wonderful daughter the past 22 years. But, the story takes a nasty twist, not the fairy tale that we wanted from each other.
I moved up in the company that I worked for, and was asked to take over the Atlantic region of the company, we talked for many hours and decided to give it a shot and move from New England to the Maryland/Virginia are for me. We took our daughter with us and packed a truck, hopped in the cab and took off for our new adventure. Donna did this for me; she has done many things for me to advance my career. Dinners, socials, trade shows, meetings, and long hours of being alone in a strange area (she grew up in New England)…..all for me.
Then the worst happened, the dr’s appointment that was,” we need to talk to you both”. We went to see the doctor in Annapolis, and now it wasn’t about me, it was about her. All about her.
Donna has put her career on hold for me, trying to start her own professional photography business , working in day care and raising our daughter, to volunteering at various animal rescue groups were ever we have lived. She has spent countless hours organizing, trapping, soliciting and even fostering the sick and infirmed animals that no one wanted until they got better and ready for adoption. She has photographed families that could afford family portraits, or even school type pictures for free in our area. But now, it was time that she had to focus on herself. I had to leave my job to care for her as well as our daughter. I gave up a high paying job, our house, moved back to New England, family, friends to care for her throughout her illness, over the past five years she has endured countless procedures, operations, spinal taps, blood tests, MRI’s, cat scans, poked and prodded, multiple doctors. This past January after a last ditch effort to stop all this, we found a wonderful doctor that has sent her into a state of remission. No more treatments, no more pills no more….”what next” to having my friend, my partner and best of all my wife back.
As she starts to try and get back on track and start her life over. She has hopes of starting her own business as well as I do too. I have been working on acquiring a landscape construction business as Donna is trying to restart her photography business, all the while still volunteering to help animal rescue groups in our area, with all her organizing skills.
This computer will be used for both our businesses, mostly Donnas, to store, plan and work on her photography work, and to help develop the different animal rescue groups that she loves to participate in. The computer will benefit non – profit organizations that care for cats and dogs that will be taken in to no-kill shelters as well as no-kill foster care programs that Donna volunteers for. Most of the work has to be done at home. This is due to the fact that she still is unable to drive and spend too much time on her feet as of yet. We could use this computer since we have moved into a small town house and have little room with our daughter, German shepherd dog, 2 adoptive cats, 2 foster cats and 4 foster kittens.
If you chose us as the winners we would be using the computer for our personal/business as well as for no-kill /non-profit organizations in our local area. This computer will not only benefit our family, but many people as well as many animals in the future.

#141 hippie4ever on 07.08.10 at 8:45 pm

If I won this computer, I would give it to my husband who is starting a new medical practice. It is not a non-profit, but it is a small practice dedicated to keeping costs down and passing the lowered cost onto the patient.

This year will be the first year that I homeschool my four children (ages 11, 10, 7 and 5). This is a decision that we made because of the horrible conditions of the city schools that they have been attending. We feel that they would prosper with more positive educational surroundings. At this time we have one old desktop pc that 6 of us share. This makes for some interesting arguments by all.
I was looking forward to contributing to our family’s income when my son started Kindergarten this year. The decision to homeschool has changed those plans. I have found out about a couple of different Work-from-home opportunities that I would be able to do while teaching my children. This would help our family out so much for me to work. The only thing that has stopped me from doing this now is the condition of the PC we have now. It is not reliable and I need something dependable so that I may do my best work. This would also eliminate some of the arguing that goes on regarding who gets to work/play on the computer.
I love that the Lenovo ThinkCentre A70z provides simple maintenance and Built-in PC management. Sounds like a dream of a PC. Not to mention all the space that this PC would free up.
Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to win this great prize.

As a father on 4 kids, getting PC access time is difficult. Trying to do work for our church and school. Updating blogs and trying to keep family around the World up to date with pictures and news.

This PC will be great as it can be wall mounted in kitchen and save space in a limited kitchen.

This PC will not solve World hunger or peace, but will help with the peace in our household!

I’ve been doing a ton of client design projects of my Lenovo thinkpad — which is awesome, but I’m probably going to go blind soon if I don’t go for a bigger screen. This would be super useful to that effect.

I love the compactness of this desktop! Thanks for hosting this giveaway with Lenovo.

Viewing recipes from a wall mounted computer would be pretty nice in handling family hunger….

We have one computer, my work computer and I have to work a lot at night (writing a dissertation, ugh). My husband is always trying to steal my computer to check email and to monitor his Ebay auctions, which I understand, but it sucks. This computer would simplify my life a lot and help his Ebay business flourish!

I desperately need this computer! My current computer is an old Dell still running Windows XP & it has a DVD Rom problem where the drive wont open and it is slow as molasses, It’s our home internet wi-fi provider and we can’t setup a netwrok that can share printers because there’s something wrong with it, but we can share internet. This computer will solve all of our problems and headaches at my house.

I only did two entries, so here’s my third one. My niece has a child with a cognitive disorder and regular school is no help to him. He needs special handling. The touch screen on this computer would be an awesome way to get him involved in learning while making it fun at the same time. He needs to be able to do things himself, but so many times he just can’t. I really think this might help him in ways that public schools just don’t have the resources to do.

I believe that winning these computers would not only benefit me and my excitement of getting new things, but also, be a great gift for my mom who does everything for me. She is paying for my tuition, endured a divorce, and raising two children-single handed. If only I could present her with a gift that she could actually use. She works as a computer technician and works with computers all day, but at home, she has an crappy old Dell, that was handed down by me. So one of these computers would serve a good purpose as in giving someone who deserves it a chance in using it.

For the past few months, I have been actively engaged in providing assistance to teachers at an elementary and a middle school (I have taken a year from school so that I can do things that I couldn’t possibly do while I am in school). I am able to go between these two schools because they are located very close to either other. As I was there to help them with school work, I also tried to create a fun environment for them to learn. So far, there are limits on what I can do because my laptop, though reliable, doesn’t have the power to do what I would it to it. So winning this computer would greatly further my efforts in education. I can share with your some of the things I wish to do with this new computer, which if I do win will mounted at the back of the classroom. First, as the students work on their assignments, I would be able to use the computer to play soothing classical music that I find to be quite helpful in absorbing materials. And every once in a while, I can play movies that I have downloaded to these kids by connecting the computer to the tv in the room.

Another thing that I have been thinking about is improving my local animal shelters. Many shelters are in serious need of help, especially in these dire times. Many animals are being given up because of foreclosure, job loss and money problems. My local shelter is great, but often overwhelmed with all the surrenders they are getting. I would like to organize a meeting with other interested people by placing ads through Craig’s List and my local newspaper , correspond through email and hopefully meet at some point to set goals. Part of my efforts would also be to launch a site where interested members can sell their products with a portion of their profits going directly to the shelter for help with the needs of the animals in their care. Winning this computer would make it easier for me because it has better performance that my current laptop. During the day, the computer would stay at the school, playing music, movies, demonstrating models, graphics, etc. And at the end of the day, I would take it home with me to work on my animal shelter project. This computer no doubt would help greatly with the initial ads, the correspondences and setting up the site for me and others to sell our products, with a direct link to a percentage of each sale going to the Shelter or shelters we choose and of course maintaining the site.

The one computer at my school library is ridiculous old and slow. It still uses Windows 98. The couple times that I actually used it gave me nothing but painful frustration. Needless to say my school is severely underfunded, and I don’t know when they will be able to
upgrade that computer at the library. So it is my wishful thinking that if I won this all-in-one computer, I would lend it to my school library during the school year. That way, my fellow students will at least be able to get some work done at the library should they need it
without ripping their hair off.

Another way that I could put this computer system to good use is to use it to teach little kids about computer and whatnot. During the summer, I will be going to YMCA, where I will be teaching computer basics. My current desktop is just too big and heavy for such task.
With this all-in-one unit, I can easily carry it to YMCA while I teach there. And when I am done with teaching at the end of the day, I could take it home without much hassle.

If I win this Lenovo computer this computer would be for the whole family to use, currently my sister has a laptop which we use but most of the time she brings it to her school … so this will be very useful for all of us, I can use it for games and watching videos and my mom can use it to check her emails. A computer can do a lot of things for me and my brother, but maybe I can secretly set up this computer at my closet and have it all to myself 24/7 =), no but really this computer whould help my brother and mom very much, thanks for doing this giveaway… hopefully the person really needs it [like me =)]

There are so many ways that I could use this computer for good. For one, there are a lot of clubs at my school that could certainly use a computer to help with their club activities, whether it be tracking of members contributions, creating presentations, making agenda, etc. Secondly, I could give this computer to one of the teachers in my school who would find it to be quite helpful in assisting him/her with teaching. The possibilities are endless. Then again, there is only one computer to go around.

#178 Dan Bailan on 07.10.10 at 12:09 pm

I have got another idea that could indirectly put the computer to good use. What if I sell the pc and micro-lend the proceeds to small businesses and other needed people in the world. That way, I could help others one small loan at a time and make a little money on the side as well. A win-win situation.

This computer would reduce stress on a working mom by giving her 14-year-old her own computer to do homework on. This 14-year-old enters high school this fall and currently “shares” her mom’s laptop. (By shares, I mean when I get home and say I want the computer, I might get it back within 5 minutes or sometimes I just go to bed, tired of hearing “just a minute” so many times.) That being said, this is a good kid, mostly helpful and quite talented, even if she hasn’t practiced her viola since school let out for summer. ;-)

There are also times when I want to take my laptop when I go to work, but don’t because I can only use it when I take my meal break. I leave it at home so the kid can have it. So, having a computer for her would give me my laptop back to use when and where I want to.

This computer could be used to broaden the horizons of kids who are living in very dreary circumstances. These kids live in shelters with their parents and don’t necessarily have access to all the wonders and educational opportunities offered on the internet. Maybe it would show that there is a bright future out there.

Here is our story and how this computer would help us. My husband busted his butt through law school. He graduated high in his class with offers to join firms in our area. We decided to move back home (to Indiana…from FLORIDA…yeah.) to be close to family. We knew that it would be more difficult for Travis to find a job because of the fewer contacts he had in this area, but we did it anyway. So he passes the bar and sends out 100 resumes all over the state. He got 2 interviews, and got one of them. We moved across the state to this little bitty town where my husband was to work as a deputy prosecutor, making pennies on the dollar. We couldn’t even afford to pay all our bills…so my husband got a second job as hotel clerk on midnight shift on Fridays and Saturdays. I also got a waitresses job to help with the bills, and we would literally pass each other out the door every. single. day. (Did I mention we have 3 kids, too? It was brutal.) But, we were determined to make it and make things better. One day, a job became available in our hometown, so my husband applied. He got the interview and not without divine intervention, he got the job. (He was in no way qualified or had the experience, but he got it!) So we moved back home in December of 2009 and couldn’t be happier to be making a little more money (he is still a prosecutor, though, so not that much more :) ) and to be close to our families. In February, out of nowhere, he was nominated to run for the elected prosecuting attorney for the next town over (my husband’s actual home town.) My husband accepted because of this: There is a huge drug problem in this town. He wants to help people and the community. He has no interest in politics what so ever, but recognizes the need for someone to aggressively prosecute the individuals that put the lives of others at risk. So NOW we are running a campaign. It is crazy, but I know he can make a difference, so we are going full force. Here is where the Lenovo All-in-One comes in: Our ancient computer is on the verge of crashing all together. A few months ago, all of our programs disappeared, except for Microsoft Word….and we are able to use the internet. Isn’t that weird?! Of course, this is our life line to the campaign, so I’ve been emailing my mother-in-law every piece of information just. in. case. My husband is way to frugal to buy a new computer on his salary with our our debt from student loans, so we are just praying it keeps on working until at least after the election in November. There are a lot of deserving people out there, thanks for giving us the chance!
Here’s my husband’s campaign website just in case you want to take a look: http://www.travisclowers.com

And for another entry, let me tell you about my husband. He is the most un-selfish person I have ever met. He started law school in 2005, with a wife and baby and baby on the way (and we had one more during law school). It hasn’t been easy, but I have watched him sacrifice his wants countless times in order to make sure we have everything we need or want. An example of this that also ties in with the Lenovo is that he never bought a laptop through law school. Everyone, except him, had a laptop in class for notes. He wrote his notes on a yellow legal pad. He has hundreds of them from law school, but he was committed to getting through school on a tight budget, and for the most part, we managed to keep our loans as low as possible. Thanks!

This computer could be used for good for my family. This computer would not only help my 2 daughters with their school work but also for mine when I start next year. The computer we have now has been fixed twice and is still running really slow. My daughters need a good one for their school term papers and to browse things they need to learn about or having trouble understanding. I would also be using it for about the same things and also my regular surfing the web. That is what I think it could be good for. Thanks for the chance.
